VASCULAR CONSEQUENCES OF GAS AND PARTICULATE PHASES OF NEAR-ROADWAY POLLUTION

VASCULAR CONSEQUENCES OF GAS AND PARTICULATE PHASES OF NEAR-ROADWAY POLLUTION
PI: Hector Olvera Alvarez
Sponsor: NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH SCIENCES
Health Promotion/Public Health Science
Amount awarded: $413,729

This project focuses on the assessment of air quality in outdoor and indoor areas adjacent to roadways. Dr. Olvera will design, implement, and analyze airborne contaminants, including assessment of Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) exposure, using gas chromatography/mass spectroscopy, and small particle content and distribution, using Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer (SMPS). He will explore potential impacts of VOC/particle interactions and will characterize ambient, school, and residential indoor contaminant levels.
