Dr. Ambler is a historian of modern Africa, with a particular focus on the social and cultural transformations associated with colonialism. He has focused considerable attention on issues related to ethnic identity and more recently on mass media, including film. Dr. Ambler researches and writes on the history of empire particularly in relationship to the history of drug and alcohol control and use globally.
