Dr. Herman has designed locally for the El Paso Opera and Fonterra Reparatory, and nationally for Utah Festival Opera and The Weston Playhouse. She worked for 3 years as the Head Milliner & Costume Crafts Supervisor at Utah Festival Opera. She also has worked on several TV series that were filmed locally: National Geographic’s “Explorer: Norco State” and the pilot episode of “The Bridge.”
Her book: “A Costumer’s Guide to Period Reproduction Buckram Millinery” will be published by Focal Press in October 2015. Dr. Herman developed an intense research plan and wrote several grant proposals to support my writing. She traveled to New York City and London to study with several professional milliners. She also became involved in conservatory examination at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
Dr. Herman has written five grant proposals. The most notable is a National Endowment for The Humanities proposal for a Summer Institute titled: “Understanding Culturally Relevant Theatre”. For this proposal she developed a plan for two week institute to facilitate discussion of culturally relevant theatre.
Dr. Herman has been granted a Provisional Patent for the invention of an ergonomic elevated artist’s wrist support which prevents unwanted smudging while retaining full natural range of motion.
