Professor, Mathematical Sciences - Computational Science - Environmental Science and Engineering - Border Biomedical Research Center (BBRC)

Dr. Staniswalis is a statistician working in the areas of non- and semi- parametric regression, and functional data analysis for curve data. Her interest in biomedical applications is a direct result of an appointment at The Medical College of Virginia's Biostatistics Department before coming to UTEP in 1990. At UTEP she has worked on interdisciplinary research such as the health effects of pollution in ambient air, and the use of ecological data to study disparities in health outcomes. She has held many visiting appointments: University of Wisconsin, Madison, Department of Statistics; MD Anderson Cancer Center, Biostatistics Department; Cornell University, Statistics Department; New Mexico State University, College of Health Sciences. Dr. Staniswalis has had extramural funding for over 25 years from various agencies (mostly NSF and NIH) in support of her research, leading to publications in both statistics and interdisciplinary journals. She has been recognized as 2001 Fellow of The American Statistical Association: "For important contributions to nonparametric regression and its application to biomedical research; for collaborative research accomplishments and administrative leadership in consulting; for mentoring of students and junior researchers.''
