Kathleen Mein
Clinical Assistant Professor, Teacher Education

Dr. Kathleen R. Mein is an assistant professor of practice in the College of Education’s Teacher Education Department. In 2009, she earned a doctorate in education from the University of Virginia. Dr. Mein brings a wealth of professional experience in the public school setting—including 11 years as a classroom teacher, 10 years as a reading specialist, and 12 years as an administrative leader. Dr. Mein believes that future educators benefit when community partnerships and teaching field experiences are embedded in undergraduate courses. Currently, she teaches a literacy & language arts methods class at Mesita Elementary School (EPISD) and at Purple Heart Elementary School (SISD). As part of this class, undergraduate students apply their knowledge of research-based language arts & literacy practices during ten hours of field experience in kindergarten through fifth grade classrooms. Through a partnership with El Paso Parks & Recreation After School Programs, students enrolled in the foundations of literacy & learning course participate in 15 hours of guided field experience as book buddy tutors with children enrolled in the after-school programs.
