CENTERS AND COMMUNITIES

P.J. Vierra
Lecturer, English
Assistant Director, Advancement Communications, Asset Management and Development

Dr. Vierra examines the role of language in the facilitation of collaboration and the contribution of rhetoric toward the cognitive evolution of the human mind. An institutional historian, he researches and publishes extensively on the history of public university systems and on the cultural, societal, and economic factors that affect higher education, as well as on how we write history. His latest research takes an interdisciplinary approach to the origins of rhetoric using cognitive psychology, evolutionary biology, and archaeology. An instructor of rhetoric and composition, Dr. Vierra explores the relationship between first-year student success and persistence.
