NETWORKS

Timothy Dickinson
Assistant Professor, Criminal Justice

Dr. Dickinson is a criminologist whose work focuses on the various functions of offender communication. He uses qualitative field methods to explore how offenders use talk to manage conflict, avoid arrest, and facilitate their crimes. He also investigates how the stories offenders tell about their lives construct their self-identities and, in turn, how these storied identities then contribute to their initiation, continuation, and desistance from crime. Dr. Dickinson is a faculty member in the Department of Criminal Justice. In the classroom he uses his research experiences to illustrate and elucidate concepts in both research methods and theory courses.
