Description

We are an interdisciplinary educational and research-based community of practice focused on serving the older adult population in the El Paso del Norte border region. We advance practice, educational, and research opportunities focused on the processes of aging from a holistic perspective. We welcome expertise in diverse research strategies, educational methods, and evidence-based interventions to support workforce development, and stakeholder and community engagement. We capitalize on these diverse resources to foster community-university partnerships.

Aspirations

Members of the Community of Practice on Aging (CoPA) aspire to increase awareness on the experiences and complexities of aging. CoPA will accomplish this through community-based participatory scholarship and education. We will promote mentoring of faculty, students, and community partners and stakeholders to engage in educational and research opportunities unique to the border region. CoPA will develop and implement undergraduate and graduate certificates in aging. Our ultimate goal is to develop a Center on Aging.

Convergence Gerontology: Rethinking Translation in Research on Aging
External Resource
Document
Dahlia Castillo

In this publication, the author argues that, "translation in aging research is most productively viewed from the perspective of convergence: bringing in expertise from different disciplines to rethink research challenges and apply different kinds of data and analytic tools. Translating a research problem across disciplines may speed solutions to the major challenges of aging."
