Dr. Schwartz’s program of research focuses on the cognitive nature of bilingual reading from basic, theoretical and applied, educational perspectives. The overarching theme that unifies these studies is an exploration of the interactive nature of bilingual reading and its consequences for comprehension. Through this program of research, Dr. Schwartz has demonstrated that cross-language activation of lexical representations influences comprehension from the basic bottom-up processes of single word identification to the top-down integrative processes of text comprehension.
