Director, Operations - Mike Loya Center for Innovation and Commerce

Cervantes joined The University of Texas at El Paso in 2012. He was previously the director of operations for the Mike Loya Center for Innovation and Commerce. He holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Science with a concentration in software development. He is a proud alumnus of the MBA program of the College of Business Administration and holds a Master of Science in Information Technologies from the College of Engineering.

Cervantes has served as a consultant for the Labor Bureau in Mexico, worked at some of the largest telecommunications companies, and was CEO and founder of Cervantes Consultores, a consulting firm that provided organizational development and technological platform implementation services. He has designed and created many educational programs and is well versed in entrepreneurship education; in 2016, his work in this discipline brought international recognition to the Mike Loya Center by the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers, when it was named Outstanding Emerging Entrepreneurship Center.

Cervantes has been instrumental in the development of the region's ecosystem and has created working partnerships with different private and public entities such as NSF and the Office of Innovation and Strategic Investment from the UT System. He has been able to secure external funding from different agencies and achieve sustainability and profitability for some of the programs he has designed.
