Brian Yothers publishes in Early American Literature and Nineteenth-Century American Literature. Yothers publishes on Herman Melville, the literature of travel, religion and literature, Edgar Allan Poe, Mark Twain, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Frederick Douglass, Charles W. Chesnutt, the literature of slavery and freedom, Gothic literature, and the global dimensions of American literature. Yothers also has published on American poetry and poetics in the nineteenth century, the critical reception of nineteenth-century American authors, and the teaching of literature.
