Dr. Carlos Algara is an Assistant Professor in the Political Science Department. He received his Ph.D. in Political Science in June 2019 from the University of California, Davis. Prior to coming to the University of Texas at El Paso, Dr. Algara was 2019-2020 American Political Science Association Fellow placed in the United States Senate. His research agenda broadly focuses on the nature of electoral accountability, legislative representation, and the causes and implications of elite and mass-level latent ideological preferences. Currently, Dr. Algara also has a host of published and on-going projects assessing the role of white racial resentment in shaping electoral accountability and political participation.His research has been published multiple peer-reviewed outlets and has also been featured for a broad general audience in such outlets such as the New York Times, Sacramento Bee, The Texas Tribune, and Pacific Standard Magazine.
