Dr. Charles Boehmer researches topics broadly in the areas of international relations and border studies. His research includes two major areas of research. First, he studies how economics and violent conflicts relate to each other, including examining how wealth and economic growth contribute to war, how trade and investment reduce international conflicts, and how economics affect domestic conflicts such as terrorism and civil war. Second, his research examines the relationship between international organizations and international interactions and phenomena, such as how networks of organizations affect state compliance with human rights treaties and how states cooperate internationally. His research also included border studies, such as examining why states allow or block flows of migrants, travelers, and tourists from crossing borders.
