Dr. Cabrera's research areas are at the interface of materials science and biosciences with emphasis on electrochemical techniques and methods and X-ray spectroscopy characterization. The main funded research topics are in fuel cell catalysts development and X-ray spectroscopy operando characterization, microbial-electrochemistry systems for environmental sensing and remediation at El Paso, Texas, and Cataño, Puerto Rico, and bioelectrochemical chip sensor development for Hispanic health disparity deseases at the Borderland. His research group has close collaborations with Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source (CHESS), Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, and BIDEA LLC.
