Elisabeth W Sommer
Lecturer, Art - Sociology and Anthropology

Elisabeth Sommer's doctorate is in European History with a focus on society and culture. Dr. Sommer published in the field of Early Modern religion and transatlantic history through my research on the Moravian Brethren. Dr. Sommer's has graduate training in Museum Studies and professional experience in Museum education, administration, and curation. She is currently co-writing an article with a colleague in the Communications Department focused on our experience creating a series of animated videos of old master paintings for the El Paso Museum of Art. The article posits that art museums still struggle with sharing authority over their collections, despite this being established as best practice for the 21st century. It also outlines the challenges and opportunities posed by the use of digital media in museums. Dr. Sommer is passionate about the role of museums as places of community and public service, and hope to train the next generation of museum professionals in sharing this passion.
