Dr. Isabel Baca conducts research on community-based learning, more specifically, community writing and service-learning across the curriculum. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate writing courses, including bilingual writing courses and literacy internships. As Director of the Community Writing Partners Program in the Department of English, Dr. Baca connects students, faculty, and community nonprofits to help meet literacy needs in the community. Her teaching experience expands over 25 years at all levels and institutions. She has experience teaching face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online courses. Her scholarship centers on service-learning, language attitudes, and workplace communication, both written and oral. Dr. Baca is also interested in seeking venues and opportunities to improve mentoring for Latinas/os in higher education and improve education and writing instruction for second-language learners. She is an advocate of students' right to their home language and having students apply their learning by serving the community. Dr. Baca has also served as a writing consultant in the community.
