Dr. Apodaca is currently a Lecturer and soon to be Post-doctoral Research Assistant in the Department of Biological Sciences. Her teaching interests include molecular biology, comparative genomics and evolutionary biology. Her primary research explores the molecular genetic processes involved growth and encystation of the parasitic protozoan Giardia lamblia from an evolutionary perspective. Much of Dr. Apodaca’s research employs genome-scale experimental and computational approaches. Her doctoral work explored the evolution of the transcriptional response to oxygen limitation in the Enterobacteriaceae.
