John David Gibson

Dr. Gibson comes to UTEP with a background in macroeconomic modeling, computational methods, and financial and monetary economics. His research interests include measuring the economic and social impact of public policies such as infrastructure investment and public debt issuance, and investigating the important role played by real-world frictions related to both labor and credit markets. Dr. Gibson’s work has been published in leading economic journals including Journal of Money, Credit & Banking, Journal of Economic Dynamics & Control, Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, and Economic Inquiry, among others. Prior to UTEP, Dr. Gibson served as an Assistant Professor of Economics at Georgia State University. He received his doctoral degree in economics from Florida State University, where he was awarded the Piette Dissertation Award, and the Irvine and Peggy Sobel Award for overall academic achievement. He is a member of the American Economic Association, Econometric Society, Latin American and Caribbean Economic Association, and the Southern Economic Association. He is currently a visiting scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, and consultant to the GMF Latin American Division of the World Bank. During his leisure time, Dr. Gibson enjoys playing music with family and friends, and watching college and professional footbal.
