Dr. Lopez performs research in nuclear physics, gravity waves, astrophysics, physics education, pre-K science teaching, materials science, and applications of scientific methods to social sciences including political science, anthropology, and cultural heritage. He has and has had collaborations with researchers in Argonne National Lab, Berkeley National Lab, Arizona State U, Buenos Aires, and several institutions in Mexico, Chile, and Venezuela. Dr. Lopez has edited and written 8 books and over 100 journal articles on research topics, and many more for general audiences. He has obtained funds for research activities from DOE, NSF, NASA, JPL, DoD, etc., and has organized regional, national and international meetings. In particular, I have played a key role initiating the National Society of Hispanic Physicists, the Latin American Symposium on Nuclear Physics and Applications, and in founding the Division of Radiation Physics of the Mexican Society of Physics.
