I love deserts and my research generally focusses on studying both modern and ancient deserts. Change in deserts happens slowly, and deserts form records of tectonic and climatic influences that can stretch back millions of years. I look at the interactions of tectonics, hydrology, sedimentation and erosion to study what can cause changes desert landscapes. I also study the tectonically active basins of the southwestern United States, looking at how tectonics interacts with tectonic deformation and landscape. A new area of interest is the use of technology in the collection and analysis of field data.
