Dr. Amaya’s research interests relate to population-based investigation of the sources of hazardous exposures in the El Paso, TX-Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. She has worked in leadership positions in interdisciplinary teams at UTEP and other Universities. She has worked collaboratively with geologists, chemists, physicians, statisticians and epidemiologists. She was the first nursing researcher to work with the NIH directive for Community Based Participatory Research. Her expertise is in population-based environmental health.
