Reza Salehi-Ashtiani
Associate Professor, Civil Engineering

Dr. Ashtiani conducts research in the area of computational mechanics, with an emphasis on geomaterials. His main area of expertise is constitutive modeling of civil engineering materials, with particular relevance to the design and analysis of infrastructure systems. Specifically, the focus of his research is modeling and analysis of multi-layers systems such as airfield runways and pavements. Dr. Ashtiani managed and/or participated in several cutting-edge research projects sponsored by the US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), US Department of Transportation (USDOT), International Center for Aggregate Research (ICAR), and Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), to name a few. In addition to national organizations, he has collaborated with several private companies in the area of civil engineering. He is also closely involved with professional student organizations at UTEP. Currently, he serves as the faculty advisor for the concrete canoe competition of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and as faculty mentor for the Transportation Research Board (TRB) at UTEP.
