Wei Qian
Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering - Bioinformatics - University Studies/Entering Student Program

Dr. Wei Qian is working on COVID-19 project. He is currently, in April of 2020, joining the pilot studies with UT System AI COVID project group, this project involves more than 20 medical schools and biomedical informatics Institutes in Texas. Dr. Wei Qian has many years' experience on the biomedical imaging for breast cancer and lung cancer detection and diagnosis while he worked at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute. In the past years, he has been conducting original studies in medical imaging, biomedical imaging and molecular imaging, particularly in computer-aided cancer detection and diagnosis or remote detection and diagnosis for digital mammography, X-ray lung images, lung CT images, cellular images and molecular images, integrating intelligent techniques including the use of neural networks, fuzzy logic, genetic algorithms and evolution algorithms in simulation, modeling, and design of high performance and robust systems. He has published widely in these areas with more than 200 papers in peer-reviewed journals and premier international conferences (with H-Index 31). He has been awarded five USA patents. Three of the five patents have been licensed and commercialised by the Kodak Company (now Carestream Health Inc). This is an important index for translational research (the successful rate is 60%).
