Mission and Goals

The Border Region Modeling Project investigates all aspects of the Borderplex regional economy. BRMP titles published on an ongoing basis include Borderplex Business Barometer (monthly), Mexico Consensus Economic Forecast (quarterly), Borderplex Economic Outlook (annual), and Borderplex Long-Term Economic Trends (sporadic). Between 2011 and 2020, BRMP reports accounted for more than 27,800 digital downloads from the UTEP Library.

Funders and Collaborators

The Border Region Modeling Project (BRMP) is a research unit within the Department of Economics & Finance of the College of Business Administration at The University of Texas at El Paso. BRMP consists of one half-time faculty member, one full-time Research Economist, and two part-time student Research Assistants. BRMP staff frequently participate at public information events hosted on campus or sponsored by off-campus organizations.

EXPERTISE

Short-term cyclical forecasts generated using the model are published every year during the fourth quarter. Long-term structural trend projections generated with the model are also periodically published. In addition, the Border Region Modeling Project publishes a refereed technical report research series that investigates borderplex policy and development issues.

CAPABILITIES

Geographic coverage provided by the model encompasses El Paso, Texas; Ciudad Juárez, México; Chihuahua City, México; and Las Cruces, New Mexico. Sectoral coverage provided by the model includes demography, employment, personal income, retail sales, residential real estate, transportation, international commerce, water consumption, and cross border manufacturing.
