Description

The Undergraduate Research iMove Community connects faculty and professional staff who wish to share data, knowledge, experiences, and best practices in undergraduate research, scholarly and creative activities. UTEP's Campus Office of Undergraduate Research Initiatives (COURI) serves as the central unit on campus for facilitating undergraduate training in research, scholarly, or creative activities, enhancing student's academic success and professional development, and showcasing the results of their work.

An instrument to assist institutions to self-asses the maturity of their undergraduate research programs. The instrument aspires to present the best practices in undergraduate research. It can be used as a guide for institutions that are striving to enhance the learning experiences of students through research program. It can also be used as a beacon for institutions that are in the beginning stages of developing and undergraduate research program.

A set of practices built on a cooperative team framework to support the creation and maintenance of dynamic and inclusive groups. ARG extends the number of students involved in research through inclusion of those who have the capability, but who have not considered research. ARG students become productive members of research teams through the deliberate and intentional development of the technical, team, and professional skills and knowledge required for cooperative work.

The ARG model facilitates workshops and structured activities that develop student members’ technical, communication, research, and cooperative group skills. Students develop research skills throughout the semester by working with the faculty mentor and through their pairing with more experienced student researchers.

The ARG handbook can be used as a step-by-step guide for newly formed research groups or as a reference manual for more established ones. Because groups differ in purpose and personality, the structure and activities presented can be adapted as needed to accommodate various environments, research areas, and audiences.
