This community connects UTEP faculty and professional staff who are involved in community engagement activities or research related to COVID-19.
The goal of this community is to connect and support interaction among members and related community stakeholders. The efforts of this community provide a snapshot of the various ways that UTEP is responding to COVID-19 in the community and beyond. EL PASO, Texas – With social distancing rules in place to protect the public from the spread of COVID-19, people developed their own ways to share their lives with each other. One popular method was to “meet” on adjoining balconies to perform music or to acknowledge others.

The University of Texas at El Paso’s Environmental Health and Safety department (EHS) is working with local health care professionals to fit test their personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure that they are properly protected while working amid COVID-19 patients.
UTEP is supporting Texas Tech University and City of El Paso by seeking supply of reagent and viral media to significantly expand COVID-19 sample assessment by using our PCR research capability to identify DNA in our genetic research lab. UTEP PCR can evaluate 1,000 samples overnight.
UTEP is supporting Del Sol Medical Center by advising on workflow to expand hospital capacity and capability.
Our vision is for additive manufacturing (AM) technology to revive the economy through a transformation in the way products are designed and manufactured, taking advantage of distributed manufacturing and 3D multi-functional designs enabled by AM.
