The Department of Civil Engineering is proposing to organize a study abroad program called Faculty-Led Study Abroad Program on Smart Cities (the Program) to be held in Prague, Czech Republic in the Summer of 2023. The lead faculty members (Program Directors) are Dr. Kelvin Cheu and Dr. Jeffrey Weidner. The activities abroad will be hosted by Dr. Tomas Horak, Dr. Miroslav Svitek, and Dr. Petra Skolilova at Czech Technical University (CTU). This is the second time this study abroad will be offered. The previous study abroad was in the Summer of 2019. During these 12 days, UTEP students will be joined by a group of CTU students. They will attend smart cities lectures, participate in technical writing workshops, visit research centers, and do group projects. All these academic activities will be held on CTU campus. In addition, they will also attend the Smart Cities Symposium and European Transport Congress on May 26 to 27 to learn about smart cities research projects in European countries. The students will present their group projects in the symposium’s special session.
