Dr. Leyser-Whalen is a medical sociologist focused on health disparities and reproductive technologies. She has published in medical journals, hybrid journals, and social science journals on topics related to infertility, sterilization, contraception, and bioethics. She received her PhD from the University of Kansas, was a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Texas Medical Branch, and is now a faculty member in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at The University of Texas at El Paso.
