Dr. Djafari-Rouhani’s research in Mathematics has been concentrated in the area of Nonlinear Functional Analysis, and in particular, Nonlinear Ergodic Theory, Nonlinear Evolution Equations, Nonlinear Difference Equations, Fixed Point Theory, Variational Inequalities and Optimization. He does not focus on specific practical applications of his results (which is usually the case for pure mathematicians). Rather, researchers from diverse disciplines have used his results in their work in more applied fields, in particular in Economics and Hydrology. The areas Dr. Djafari-Rouhani works in deal in particular with the field of Nonlinear Dynamics, where one is trying to predict the long time behavior of solutions to some evolving system arising from physical, engineering or social sciences. Dr. Djafari-Rouhani believes that other researchers working in applied sciences, in particular at UTEP, may be able to use his findings in their work, creating the possibility of some interdisciplinary collaboration.
