Skye Fortier
Associate Professor, Chemistry and Biochemistry
Director, Doctoral Program Co-Director
Assistant Chair, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry

Research in the Fortier laboratory is driven by fundamental curiosity and his group’s research activities are dedicated mainly to the study of molecular early metal and actinide complexes (e.g. Ti and U). In particular, Dr. Fortier’s group targets beautiful and exotic molecules that exhibit unusual electronic and magnetic properties, structural features, and/or reactivity. Other research interests include the activation of dinitrogen as well as tackling energy related problems such as light alkane activation and the efficient harvesting of solar energy using photoactive metal complexes. Dr. Fortier’s group is especially adept in the synthesis, purification, crystallization, handling, and characterization of air and water sensitive molecules and paramagnetic complexes.
