Research in the Pankow Group is rooted in the development of next-generation conjugated polymers for applications in organic electrochromic devices, organic photovoltaics, and organic electrochemical transistors. Our research efforts are divided into three main areas: 1) design and synthesis of self-healing polymers; 2) solvent-free polymer synthesis via mechanochemical polymerization; 3) stimuli-responsive polymers for optical, thermal, and strain sensing. These efforts incorporate various aspects of organic/organometallic synthesis, polymer synthesis and characterization, sustainable chemistry, and material science.
