Osvaldo F Morera
Professor, Psychology

Dr. Morera is formally trained as a quantitative psychologist from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is a member of the Health Psychology concentration area at UTEP. He is an applied psychometrician with interests in measurement invariance. Dr. Morera is primarily interested in ensuring that measures operate or function similarly across groups of individuals. He also has interests in health research, particularly as it applies to Hispanic health disparities. Dr. Morera is interested in using decision aids to promote cancer screening in under-served populations. His former doctoral student and him (De Heer et al., 2011) published a paper (based on his UTEP Outstanding Dissertation award) in the American Journal of Public Health, where they developed an afterschool exercise and intervention program geared toward Latino school children. He is also examining the correlates of border mobility on Hispanic health and Hispanic health disparities. While varied, his research interests involving applied psychometrics, Hispanic health and behavioral decision theory all fit the stated mission “to create, interpret, evaluate, apply and disseminate knowledge; to encourage the addition of perspectives based on UTEP’s geographic and social setting; and to contribute to the formation of a broader intellectual and artistic foundation for the 21st century.”
