For Andre Perez, summer days used to involve building homemade rockets and potato launchers with his friends in Juárez, Mexico. Today, his love of science has propelled him to a summer research scholar position at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville (UTK).

Perez, a sophomore biological science major at The University of Texas at El Paso, will spend eight weeks modeling protein translation and genome evolution.
