Over a two-year period of performance, the Army Research Laboratory (ARL) will work with the UTEP faculty and students to undertake a technical project related to the ARL mission. The work will be performed at UTEP and will start in the 2017 summer semester. Objectives are to: (1) develop an infrastructure that leverages local and regional entities to create two summer cybersecurity boot camp trainings, yielding open source, analyst-centric datasets that can be used to address broader-scope research questions related to vulnerability assessment and analysis; and (2) develop algorithms for automatic extraction of network protocol structures into a standardized format and demonstrate that the algorithms can be used to augment widely used assessment tools.
