CONFERENCE: 37TH ELECTRONIC STRUCTURE WORKSHOP (ES25)
PI: Eunja Kim
Sponsor: National Science Foundation
Physics
Amount awarded: $12,000

This UTEP workshop enhances training and promotes collaboration in electronic structure theory and computational materials science, bringing together computational and theoretical researchers. It offers targeted training for undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral students to effectively combine electronic-structure methods, improving predictive modeling and simulations of material physics. Participants from universities, colleges, laboratories, and industry, along with invited speakers from a national pool of leading experts, benefit from the program. The workshop highlights recent advances in electronic structure theory, including new computational techniques, greater efficiency, improved accuracy, and applications to molecules, liquids, and solids. It supports workforce development and contributes to the growth of the new Physics doctoral program launched in August 2024. Funding enables trainee participation and activities that often lack external research support, helping prepare a future workforce skilled in materials design for microelectronics, energy, and related sectors.
