Amount awarded: $24,999

Supplemental funding will support the launch of a community-centered artificial intelligence education initiative that builds on an existing National Science Foundation (NSF)–funded project. The effort will organize and mentor teams of students and educators as they participate in the Presidential AI Challenge, using project-based learning to address locally defined challenges such as environmental quality, public safety, and accessibility. Partnerships with local schools, educators, youth, community stakeholders, and computer science experts will anchor the work in real-world needs while strengthening technical skills and collaborative problem-solving. Virtual, locally hosted AI challenge competitions will provide structured preparation, helping participants build confidence and readiness for advancement to state, regional, and national levels of the Presidential AI Challenge.
