| EMPOWERING THE NEXT GENERATION OF HIGHLY SKILLED STEM PROFESSIONALS THROUGH ACCESS, INTENTIONALITY, AND EFFECTIVENESS PI: Steve Crites Co-PI: Katie Serafine, Lucía Durá, Jesus Cisneros, Elizabeth Walsh, Kenith Meissner Sponsor: Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Psychology Amount awarded: $289,999 This project centers on strengthening student success and long-term career readiness while building durable institutional practices at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). Efforts focus on ensuring that students complete their degrees with both disciplinary expertise and complementary skills needed to secure meaningful employment and contribute to the success of others with similar backgrounds.
Work under this project also advances institutional change by partnering with faculty and support staff to establish processes and a shared culture that sustain student success beyond SCSC funding. Activities concentrate on two interconnected areas: assessing and improving campus climate and identifying and removing structural barriers that limit student progress. Together, these efforts align individual student outcomes with lasting organizational practices that support equity, persistence, and workforce preparation.
