A 12-month mixed-method evaluation will examine whether the Texas First Responder Workforce and Family Readiness Demonstration Program improves quality of life and reduces suicide risk among first responders in El Paso County. The work responds to high levels of stress-related mental health challenges affecting first responders and their families and focuses on generating rigorous evidence about program impact. The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) Department of Social Work and REAS contribute expertise in behavioral health research, program evaluation, and culturally responsive methods. Project activities include focus groups and two Photovoice projects designed to capture participant experience alongside broader evaluation findings. Together, these methods will assess how the program supports mental health, well-being, and resilience among first responders.
