Forklift Danceworks, directed by Allison Orr, part of the Texas Touring Roster, will visit The University of Texas at El Paso for the fourth edition of UTEP World Water Week (March 20-23, 2024) to engage adult community members in workshops and talks to activate environmental awareness through performance practice. The World Water Week (WWW) 2024's Organizing Committee selected Forklift as the conference's key artist for the company's recognized capacity to engage community members in performance practice and value movement as a source of collective learning. Forklift will help us elevate the work of frontline water workers as movement experts whose oft-overlooked work contributes to the wellbeing of our communities by securing access to water. Forklift will also engage with young adults and community members to expand notions of dance by valuing skillful movement practices that enhance civic life. WWW will disseminate Forklift's method of cross-sector creative collaboration through public workshops (3) and talks (2), setting the stage for Forklift's future performance endeavors in the Paso del Norte region. We value Forklift as an artistic force able to leverage performance for our underserved communities. The company has worked closely with the Organizing Committee to craft impactful, accessible, and public activities to enhance civic and artistic participation in water awareness through performance.
