The expected outcome of this research project is tighter guidelines and specification to ensure reliability of crack performance tests on hot mix asphalts (HMA). This has potential to impact the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and, as important, to position Texas as a lead state in characterizing crack tests as the national standard. This implementation focuses on establishing statewide acceptance limits for cracking resistance on mixes, and establishing laboratory testing protocol and training at District labs, both in Austin and San Antonio.
