The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) will collaboratively conduct research with McGill University (Montreal, Canada) on combustion of metals as recyclable zero-carbon fuels. The goals of the program are to (1) achieve a better understanding of processes occurring during combustion of metal fuels that could be used for effective energy storage in solar and wind power plants as well as for propulsion with no CO2 emissions; and (2) involve UTEP students in summer research experiences at McGill University to develop globally-engaged STEM professionals capable of performing in an international research environment. Establishing a long-term, sustainable collaboration between UTEP and McGill will potentially lead to new projects, student exchanges, and scientific publications in the area of combustion for clean energy applications.
