For this project , we will be gathering of field data will be concentrated at the region's border crossings at Santa Teresa, Paso del Norte, Bridge of the Americas, Stanton, and Ysleta/Zaragoza to fill data gaps that have been identified in previous studies, including:
• Data processing and statistical analysis of O-D surveys conducted at the international border crossings.
• Study methods that could be applied at the international border crossings in El Paso-Ciudad Juarez region to conduct surveys that require less than 5 minutes to capture at points where traffic flow is too fast to apply conventional travel surveys (DCL lanes)
• Gather information to generate a comprehensive study and evaluation of equipment that could be integrated to collect daily counts at 1-hr Intervals. All modes (passenger vehicles, pedestrians, commercial trucks) at Bridge of the Americas and Santa Teresa POE.
Task two will include evaluating scenarios to reduce emissions at international border crossings Analysis on traffic emissions at different international border crossings (IBCs) will be generated by running the iTDM, the Border Emission Estimator for Microsimulation (BEEM), and the Emissions Sketch Tool (EST). The following covers the expected analysis that must be completed by UTEP personnel: 1) Definition of geometric and operational configurations to evaluate as IBC scenarios, in coordination with the El Paso MPO. 2) Coding and running of scenarios in the iTDM. 3) Border Emission Estimator for Microsimulation (BEEM) runs to estimate microsimulated-based traffic emissions for the different IBC scenarios. 4) Emission Sketch Tool (EST) runs to estimate macro-based traffic emissions for the different IBC scenarios. 5) Preparation of reports detailing the work done, results and conclusions of the analysis.
