As electric vehicle (EV) adoption continues to increase, there remains a need to ensure Texas has adequate, comprehensive charging infrastructure. While currently comprising less than 1 percent of all registered vehicles in Texas, projections forecast that EVs could reach up to 55 percent by 2040. This significant industry shift will require considerable, proactive efforts to support the transition, with a hyperfocus on infrastructure readiness and interregional connectivity. The state needs to identify optimal places where infrastructure is genuinely needed in advance of the anticipated influx of funding to build out additional stations. A new evaluation is particularly required as settlement money is currently being distributed to build out many additional sites. After that investment, an assessment would identify the most substantial need and show how additional investments can be best utilized to support EV mobility.
