NEW PLACES AND FACES: EXPANDING SOCIAL WORK AND INTERPROFESSIONAL EDUCATION ON THE US-MEXICO BORDER PI: Candyce Berger Co-PI: Celia Pechak, Margie Padilla, José Rivera, Jessica Shenberger-Trujillo, Alma Armendariz, Jeri Sias Sponsor: TEXAS HIGHER EDUCATION COORDINATING BOARD Social Work Amount awarded: $387,486 To address the behavioral health shortages, interprofessional education opportunities, and the academic- clinician training needs of far western Texas, the project's major goals and expected outcomes are to: 1) increase student capacity for the Masters of Social Work clinical sites while recruiting African-American and Hispanic students via new PLACES (Placement in Academic- Clinical Education Sites); 2) pilot interprofessional education models in underserved communities in new PLACES with Social Work, Physical Therapy, and Pharmacy students and faculty; and 3) develop a cohort of new FACES (Faculty Acculturation to Clinical Education and Scholarship) focusing on best practices in clinical training and interprofessional education (IPE).
