The Performing Agency will continue testing aggregate sources requested by the Receiving Agency using the Three-Wheel Polishing Device (TWP) and the Dynamic Friction Tester (DFT). It will model trends from these results for aggregates tested under this and previous tasks. Additionally, the agency will conduct Aggregate Crushing Value (ACV) tests, which provide functional parameters for characterizing aggregates. For laboratory mix laboratory compacted (LMLC) hot-mix asphalt (HMA) samples, the agency will identify mix designs that used aggregates from Task 1 and previous TWP/DFT tests, produce LMLC samples, and test them using TWP and DFT. If the Receiving Agency provides mix designs, the Performing Agency will procure materials, perform aggregate testing as in Task 1, and test the LMLC HMA samples. Furthermore, the agency will conduct TWP and DFT testing on plant mix HMA samples previously set aside from an Inter-Agency Contract (IAC BMD) focused on balanced aggregate quality, friction testing, and balanced mix design.
