Amount awarded: $98,150

The research team will perform proteomic analysis on human vaginal specimens by high resolution data-dependent LC-MS/MS and then proteome informatics to match MS/MS spectra to predicted proteins from isolate and metagenomes. In particular, we will examine the metaproteomes in search of the bacterial enzymes that break down carbohydrates. Dr. Almeida and his team will provide proteomic data to Dr. Warren Lewis at Washington University St Louis, who will then compare the proteins discovered to human gynecological or obstetric data.
