Support for rural student success and teacher preparation anchors this funded project. Led by the College of Education at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) in collaboration with El Paso Community College (EPCC) and at least five rural school district partners in far West Texas and the Borderlands region, the project works to increase postsecondary access and persistence for rural high school students through targeted recruitment, holistic advising, and wraparound support. Preparation of future teachers is a central part of the effort. Recruitment and training focus on aspiring educators through a research-based, competency-aligned curriculum paired with a paid, year-long clinical teaching experience known as the Miner Teacher Residency.
