Strengthening regional diabetes prevention and management requires intentional support for the organizations leading this work. This project provides technical assistance, evaluation, and dissemination support for the 2025–2026 regional diabetes initiative, guided by an evidence-based and theory-driven approach that increases the likelihood of meaningful outcomes. Technical assistance will focus on refining communication strategies, strengthening program alignment with behavior-change theory, and supporting the design and implementation of a culturally responsive diabetes self-management and nutrition program. Evaluation activities will build on earlier work conducted through the El Paso Center for Diabetes. They will generate practical findings that improve programming effectiveness and document the impact of Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) classes. Dissemination will translate these findings into accessible guidance for community partners and funders. Sustainability remains a central priority, with this effort contributing to the long-term coordination of a New Mexico regional diabetes alliance, improved communication planning and messaging, and a lasting evaluation framework for the refined cooking curriculum. Dr. Cooper’s expertise supports key partners, including the Vice President of Programs, Program Officers, the El Paso Center for Diabetes, the Southern New Mexico Diabetes Organization, the regional Diabetes Alliance, and initiative grantees. Ongoing engagement through the PATCH Lab and membership in the Diabetes Alliance and medical advisory committees ensures this work continues beyond the grant cycle, strengthening regional capacity to reduce the diabetes burden and improve the quality of life for affected communities.
