Description: Abstract:A metal-free two-dimensional organic framework (Porphyrin Kevlar) was synthesized through condensation of 5,10,15,20-Tetrakis(4-aminophenyl) porphyrin and terephthaloyl chloride. The as-synthesized Porphyrin Kevlar exhibits excellent electrocatalytic performance for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in neutral solution and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in basic solution at low onset overpotential of 43 mV and 360 mV, respectively, which are better than those of related metallic electrocatalysts. The high HER and OER activity of Porphyrin Kevlar was oriented from the molecular porphyrin units, where the Kevlar fashioned network generated H-binding in between the polymer layers. Moreover, the conductivity increased by 5-fold as a result of incorporating porphyrin into the network. Porphyrin Kevlar also showed good stability under the corresponding electrolysis condition over 16 hours. Metalated versions also are efficient electrocatalysts for HER and OER.
