This community connects UTEP faculty and professional staff who are involved in community engagement activities or research related to COVID-19.
The goal of this community is to connect and support interaction among members and related community stakeholders. The efforts of this community provide a snapshot of the various ways that UTEP is responding to COVID-19 in the community and beyond. Related Efforts
Ever since New York City native Chris Beroes-Haigis moved to El Paso two years ago to study cello as a graduate student at The University of Texas at El Paso, he has sought opportunities to share his love of music.
He has played as a soloist, in duets and as part of ensembles at venues as varied as cafes, medical facilities and performance halls. He loves playing music, but just as importantly, he loves that others could be part of the musical experience.
UTEP additive manufacturing facilities supported the medical community by manufacturing protective face shields for healthcare workers.

UTEP is evaluating a modified multi-patient ventilator design to connect more than one patient per machine; 1 machine for 5 vents. Testing at UTEP Simulation Lab.

UTEP is purchasing Bioquell hydrogen peroxide disinfection system normally used for BSL-3 decontamination but that can be used to decontaminate and re-use N95 respirators up to 50 times. The equipment has been ordered. When it arrives, we will validate procedures and use for N95 respirator decontamination, if needed.
The overall goal of the BBRC is to develop, grow and sustain the extant infrastructure and programs, as well as to recruit, train, and develop cancer scientists and health practitioners to promote high quality cancer research and to translate meaningful findings back to the community. Through mentoring, pilot programs, and enhanced research infrastructure we seek to promote investigator competitiveness in acquiring extramural funding to address regional disease disparities.
